What you’ll dive!

Get ready to explore some of the Azores’ most spectacular underwater landscapes, from dramatic volcanic coastal reefs to offshore seamounts teeming with life. Drift along the Faial–Pico Channel, dive over rocky banks and plateaus, and experience the thrill of Princess Alice Bank, where pelagics and even blue sharks glide through the clear Atlantic. Each site offers a unique mix of geology, marine life, and open-ocean adventure, making every dive a memorable journey into the wild Atlantic.

Volcanic coastal reefs

Faial’s volcanic coastal reefs are a raw and dramatic expression of the island’s volcanic origin, where ancient lava flows meet the Atlantic and form rugged underwater landscapes of dark basalt, walls, arches, caverns, and boulder fields. Dives typically start on shallow lava platforms and descend along textured reef slopes into the blue, with cracks and overhangs sheltering moray eels, wrasse, parrotfish, and schooling reef fish, while occasional currents bring a hint of open-ocean energy and passing pelagics. Each dive is shaped by the conditions of the day, offering a dynamic mix of geology, marine life, and Atlantic character that makes Faial’s coastal reefs both visually striking and endlessly varied.

Faial–Pico channel dives

Diving the Faial–Pico Channel means exploring a dynamic stretch of Atlantic water shaped by strong tidal flow between the two islands, creating exciting drift dives along volcanic ridges, rocky plateaus, and steep drop-offs. The currents bring nutrient-rich water that attracts dense schools of fish, large groupers, barracuda, and regular pelagic action, giving these dives a true blue-water feel while still staying close to dramatic volcanic reef structures. Every channel dive is different, energetic, and alive, making it a highlight for divers who enjoy movement, big scenery, and the sense of diving in the heart of the Azores.

Offshore seamounts & banks

Offshore seamounts and banks rise from the deep Atlantic like underwater mountains, creating some of the most spectacular and wild dives in the Azores. These submerged volcanic peaks concentrate currents and life, resulting in crystal-clear water, dramatic drop-offs, and constant pelagic action, from swirling schools of fish to encounters with rays, sharks, and other open-ocean giants. Diving these remote sites feels like being suspended in the blue, with the seamount below and the deep ocean all around, offering a powerful sense of scale, energy, and true expedition-style diving.

Princess Alice & shark days

Princess Alice Bank is a legendary offshore seamount in the Azores, known for its incredible biodiversity and open-ocean encounters. Diving here is like entering a floating ecosystem: the volcanic plateau rises from the deep Atlantic, attracting massive schools of fish, rays, and pelagic predators. On shark days, divers have the chance to swim alongside blue sharks and other large pelagics, gliding through clear blue water with the seamount below and the open ocean stretching in every direction. These dives offer a thrilling combination of adventure, wildlife encounters, and the feeling of being in the heart of the Atlantic wilderness.
